Half a Year Later
Changes?
A lot more than I expected if you asked me at the end of 2024. Here's a quick overview:
- I've moved countries again after almost 12 years
- Leaving behind some good friends (ugh :/). We still meet a few times a year, but it's not the same.
- I'm living together with a loved person now after living alone for my entire adult life. This is nice.
- I started working again after taking 2024 entirely off to focus on health issues
- Initially freelancing for my previous employer, then the move came about somewhat unexpectedly and I accepted to do another project for them
- In between everything I was interviewing with the company my best friend works at, but turns out there's some tax bullshit that makes it impossible to work for them from where I live now because they'd risk getting sued easily
- A few months later I applied to Igalia to work on WebKit, but didn't get the job unfortunately
- I started contributing to Servo because it's interesting and gives me some real-world Rust/browser experience. Also, if it's something I really like I could try applying for Igalia again seeing that they have a bunch of people working on Servo. Maybe next year.
- Now I'm a developer at my previous employer again, but remote. I'll be working with OpenXR/Monado which sounds interesting. We'll see how it goes.
- Health issues are still a thing. Progress has been slow enough to be frustrating, but steady and noticeable.
- Doing Somatic Experiencing consistently helps me over time. Still contemplating about finding a practitioner at the new place
- Working remote helps a lot as well. No more commuting and no more being in an office all day, plus being able to sleep longer? Hell yeah.
Also, open-plan offices suck ass and you can't convince me otherwise. - The entirety of last month has been good. Like, really. This is not something that has happened very often ever since this fucktangle of symptoms started.
Making progress indeed.
I think this is it for now. Until next time. :)
